What is oowah?

oowah is an AI-powered Japanese language learning service built exclusively for travelers preparing for a trip to Japan. Unlike general language apps, oowah generates a personalized day-by-day study plan based on your travel dates, destinations, and what situations worry you most — then lets you practice through AI conversation in real travel scenarios.

How is this different from Duolingo or ChatGPT?

Duolingo is designed for long-term fluency — it’s a great app, but not optimized for someone leaving for Japan in 30 days. ChatGPT can help, but requires you to set everything up yourself. oowah combines the personalization of a private tutor with the convenience of always-on AI practice, specifically designed around travel situations: ordering food, checking into hotels, asking for directions, handling emergencies.

Do I need any Japanese knowledge to start?

Not at all. oowah is designed for complete beginners. During the onboarding process, we assess your current level and build a plan that starts from exactly where you are.

Pricing and Access

Is there a free trial?

Yes. All new registered users receive a 30-minute free trial with full access to the AI conversation features. No credit card required to start the trial.

What tickets are available?

• 7-Day Pass — $10: Ideal for short trips or last-minute preparation. Full access to all features for 7 days.
• 30-Day Pass — $29: Our recommended option. Gives you enough time to complete a full study plan before your trip.

When does my access start?

Access begins immediately upon payment confirmation. The countdown starts the moment your purchase is complete, regardless of when you log in to practice.

Can I extend my access if I need more time?

Yes. You can purchase a new ticket at any time. If you have an existing active ticket, additional days will be added to your remaining access period.

Study Plans and Features

How does the personalized study plan work?

After purchasing, you complete a 16-question onboarding diagnostic covering your travel dates, destinations, language level, daily practice time, and the situations you’re most anxious about. Our AI uses this information — along with optional MBTI input — to generate a day-by-day learning plan that runs from today to your departure date.

What does “Today’s Study” include?

Each day’s lesson is structured in three steps: (1) review of yesterday’s phrases, (2) learning new phrases for today’s scenario, and (3) live practice with the AI in that scenario. The whole session takes between 5 and 30 minutes depending on your daily time setting.

Can I practice speaking out loud?

Yes. The AI conversation interface supports voice input. Simply click the microphone button to speak your response in Japanese. The AI will respond in written Japanese (with romanization and English translation) and play it back through text-to-speech.

What language does the AI respond in?

The AI responds in a structured format: Japanese text in hiragana, the romanized pronunciation (romaji), and an English translation. This makes it easy to practice reading, pronunciation, and comprehension simultaneously.

Account and Technical

Can I use oowah on my phone?

Yes. oowah is designed to work on both desktop and mobile browsers. No app download is required. Simply visit oowah.net on your device and log in.

What if I need to change my departure date?

You can update your departure date at any time from your dashboard. The countdown will update immediately, though your existing study plan structure will remain the same.

Can I redo the onboarding if my plans change?

Yes. If your travel plans change significantly, you can redo the onboarding diagnostic to generate a new study plan. Your previous conversation history will be preserved.

How do I delete my account?

To request account deletion, please email us at oowah.net@gmail.com with the subject line “Account Deletion Request.” We will process your request within 7 business days.
